Sakhalin-1 to Come Under Moscow's Control

Sakhalin-1 will be put under Moscow’s jurisdiction in a similar fashion to Sakhalin-2 according to the head of the energy committee in Russia's lower house of parliament Pavel Zavalny today.

  • Four companies - Rosneft, ExxonMobil, Japan’s SODECO and India’s ONGC Videsh - are partners in the Sakhalin-1 group of fields.
  • There is still confusion by foreign partners in the Sakhalin-2 project about how their stakes will be impacted, with Japan seeking clarity on it since the announcement last week.
