Saudi FA Minister: I Don't Believe The Saudi-US Relationship Is Broken

OPEC+

Nader Itayim of Argus Media has tweeted comments from Saudi Arabia State Minister for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir on the developing diplomatic standoff between the United States and OPEC+ leader Saudi Arabia.

  • Al-Jubeir: “Markets have responded very positively” [to the OPEC decision] “the price of oil has actually come down since last week, not gone up.”
  • Al-Jubei: "Saudi Arabia does not politicize oil, we don’t see oil as a weapon. We see oil as a commodity and our objective is to bring stability to the oil markets and our record is clear on this… over the past decades.”
  • Al-Jubei: "I don’t believe this relationship [with the US] is broken. Very far from it. This relationship is very robust. We have almost 80k living and working in KSA, we have a very strong trade and investment relationship."
  • The White House has opposed the OPEC+ decision to cut oil production and will conduct a review of the US-Saudi bilateral relationship.
  • Democrat lawmakers, including Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, have called for a freeze on cooperation with Saudi Arabia which may include cutting arms sales to the Kingdom and withdrawing support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen.
