Saudi Raise Muajjiz Terminal Oil Exports Avoiding the Southern Red Sea

OIL

Saudi Arabia more than doubled oil exports from its Muajjiz terminal last month from 258kbpd in Dec to 580kbpd in Jan according to Bloomberg.

  • Shipments from the Muajjiz terminal on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast allow it to avoid the southern Red Sea for exports to European refiners.
  • Muajjiz cargoes are shuttled to the southern end of the Sumed pipeline located in Egypt to then be piped to the Sidi Kerir terminal on the Mediterranean coast for onward delivery.
  • Muajjiz is connected to oil fields in eastern Saudi Arabia by the East-West Pipeline.
  • Saudi Aramco has said it continues to send cargoes through the southern Red Sea with at least two tankers loading at Muajjiz headed south to Asia through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in January.
