Saunders asked on whether the Bank should publish a Bank Rate forecast

BOE

"It can be really nice if you give people complete certainty on what Bank Rate is going to be in the next few years. I don't think it's possible because the path of Bank Rate depends on the economy and as we've discussed there are lots of uncertainties around that. I do think it's useful for households and businesses to provide the direction of travel and I hope I've done that and the Bank has given guidance over the last few quarters that if the economy continues as expected that Bank Rate is likely to be going up... That's still the majority view among MPC members. But I don't think it's possible to give a precise and accurate assessment of where Bank Rate will be in a year or two out in a way that you can lean on that. And I do worry that if we started to publish interest rates forecasts that the prospect of that forecast being condition might be lost and people would treat it as more of a policy promise than it ever could be."
