Schumer-Senate Could Start Votes On FY23 Omnibus Bill This Afternoon

US

Speaking on the Senate floor, majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) states that senators should be ready to start procedural votes on the FY2023 omnibus spending bill this afternoon.

  • Says that the storm set to hit Washington, D.C., on Thursday-Friday could provide some imperative for the Senate to pass the bill ahead of then.
  • Schumer calls the bill an 'aggressive, generous and far-reaching package'.
  • Says that "Nobody wants a shutdown. Nobody benefits from a shutdown" and that “I hope no senator will stand in the way of us finishing our work".
  • Republican Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) tweets: "This monstrous spending bill comes to 4,155 pages. We deserve proper consideration and the chance to read, debate and amend - not a backroom deal. Opposing this isn’t radical: running our government like this is what’s radical."
  • Deadline looms on Friday to pass a bill or CR in order to avoid a gov't shutdown.
