SECURITY: Israel Appears To Violate Ceasefire Agreement With Strike On Lebanon

SECURITY

The IDF has confirmed that it struck a Hezbollah-affiliated compound in Southern Lebanon. It appears the strike may violate the terms of the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire agreed this week, which dictates a full cessation of hostilities while the IDF and Hezbollah force perform a withdrawal from the Israel-Lebanon border area.

  • Barack Ravid at Axios notes: "This is the first such Israeli attack since the ceasefire took effect on Wednesday morning."
  • Under the terms of the ceasefire agreement, Hezbollah forces are required to relocate north of the Litani River. Today's strike, according to multiple sources, hit the coastal city of Sidon in southern Lebanon, which is north of the Litani River.
  • Doron Kaldosh at Israeli Army Radio reports on X: "According to a security source, this is a violation of the agreement. There was no detection of preparations for the immediate firing of rockets into Israeli territory (a medium-sized rocket, meaning the range from Haifa to Tel Aviv), but the very activity of Hezbollah personnel inside the facility - constitutes a "non-immediate threat" that the IDF is required to act against."
  • Arab News reports: "Hezbollah stated it would give the ceasefire pact a chance, but Mahmoud Qamati, the deputy chair of the group’s political council, stressed that Hezbollah’s support for the deal depends on clear assurances that Israel will not resume its attacks."
  • Mairav Zonszein, a senior Israeli analyst with the International Crisis Group, noted that “for Israel, the ceasefire is not necessarily an end to the war, but a pause” in fighting.
