Sefcovic: EU Not Seeking Outright Ban On Vaccine Exports

In a press conference following the informal videoconference of European Affairs ministers, Vice-President of the European Commission for Interinstitutional Relations Maros Sefcovic stated that the EU is not seeking an outright ban on vaccine exports.

  • Sefcovic stated that rollout of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine across the EU is 'essential', but that communication with the pharma firm is 'difficult', adding that the firm 'continues to underdeliver' on its contractual obligations.
  • Earlier today officials stated that Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna were both on course to fulfil their order quantities.
