NBP

Sejm Speaker Szymon Holownia declared that he will not comply with the Constitutional Tribunal's order to halt the process of opening a probe into the conduct of National Bank of Poland (NBP) Governor Adam Glapinski.

  • The Speaker said on Wednesday that the Tribunal did not have the right to interdict parliamentary procedures. He also questioned the validity of the Tribunal's line-up which issued the interdiction.
  • Holownia suggested that he will send the petition to launch an investigation into Glapinski's conduct to the relevant committee, albeit just for preliminary consultations, without yet setting the proper procedure in motion.
  • According to Holownia, the committee will first review legal advice pointing to some shortcomings of the petition. Its opinion will then be considered by the Speaker and Deputy Speakers, who will decide whether to greenlight the probe.
