Senate Chief Says Aligned With Finance Minister Haddad on Economic Agenda

BRAZIL
  • Brazil Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco said in a press conference on Tuesday that he is “aligned” with the Finance Minister Fernando Haddad on moving forward with the government’s economic agenda. On tax reform, the bill’s rapporteur in the Senate Eduardo Braga pledged to disclose his opinion on Tuesday night and Pacheco said the bill could be voted on in the Senate’s Constitution and Justice Committee and in Senate’s floor in November. The tax reform bill is expected to be read at the committee today.
  • Finance Minister Haddad reiterated the names of the government’s nominees for the Central Bank board would be released “soon” and some people are being notified in advance, having spoken to the central bank governor on the matter.
    • “It’s not worth speculating - they are well-known people, with experience in the area,” said Haddad about the profile of the nominees. (BBG)
