Senate Expected To Amend Court Law, Consumer Confidence Data Eyed

  • DGP reports that the Senate will not be able to bring forward the awaited court law debate due to previously scheduled engagements of some upper house members. The Senate will debate the draft bill on January 31. Upper house speaker Grodzki said that he spoke with relevant EU Commissioners, who suggested that the bill could be amended, despite claims by ruling Law and Justice party officials that any changes would reopen negotiations with the Commission. As a reminder, Poland needs to adopt changes to its judicial system to secure access to EU recovery funds.
  • On return from Davos, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that the dominant view among WEF participants was that a "large part of the world will fall into recession," albeit "nobody expects a recession in Poland," unless some negative shock materialises in Europe.
  • Poland's consumer confidence for January will hit the wires at the top of the hour. Consensus calls for a marginal improvement in headline index to -40.8 from 41.9 recorded in December.
