Senate Expected To Pass America Competes Act Today

17:00 ET 22:00 GMT: The Senate will resume consideration of HR4521, America COMPETES Act to be followed at 17:30 ET 22:30 GMT with a vote on the motion to invoke cloture. If invoked the Senate will vote on passage on the bill.

  • Bloomberg quotes House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD): 'With the Senate now scheduled to amend the America COMPETES Act of 2022 with its own version and send it back to us, the House will vote to go to conference this work period.'
  • America COMPETES is becoming an increasingly important piece of legislation for Congressional Democrat leaders as mismanagement of the economy is the primary criticism of the President Biden's administration. A recent AP poll has reported that 48 percent of vote believe that Biden has made the economy worse.
  • Democrat leaders and the White House have consistently claimed that this bill can address some of the causes of inflation like the superconductor shortage and supply chain snags, and will be hoping to point to the bill as evidence of legislative progress on inflation ahead of the midterm in November.
