Senior Gov't Officials To Speak, CNB To Comment On GDP Data

CZECHIA
  • Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Industry Minister Jozef Sikela and Labour Minister Marian Jurecka will speak at an event from the top of the hour about economic challenges faced by Czechia, including the energy crisis and pension overhaul.
  • Parliament resumed its debate on the contentious pension bill. The opposition lawmakers have been trying to obstruct the debate with all available procedural means, but a vote on the bill is expected on Friday or Saturday. The legislation needs to be approved by March 22 to take effect this year.
  • Preliminary data this morning showed that Czechia's economy shrank 0.4% Q/Q in the final quarter of 2022, missing the median estimate of -0.3% (the Y/Y outturn was +0.2% vs. +0.4% expected). The CNB pencilled in a 0.5% Y/Y GDP growth for 4Q2022 in its winter forecasts. The central bank will comment on the data at 13:00CET/12:00GMT.
