September Trade Deficit -4.7% to -USD63.9B

  • The U.S. international goods and services trade deficit narrowed in September, falling 4.7% to -USD63.9 billion, according to figures published Wednesday by the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis, in line with market expectations.
  • That decline reflected a decrease in the goods deficit to USD80.7 billion and a slight increase in the services surplus to USD16.8 billion.
  • September exports grew by USD4.4 billion (+2.6%) to USD176.4 billion, while imports rose USD1.2 billion (+0.5%) to USD240.2 billion.
  • The U.S. trade gap with China narrowed slightly to -USD29.6 billion from -USD29.8 billion in August. The trade gap with Canada widened to -USD1.3 billion in September from -USD953. The trade gap with the European Union also widened to -USD16 billion from -USD15.7 billion in August.
