MEXICO: Sheinbaum To Update On Security Efforts, Rebuilding In Acapulco

MEXICO
  • President Sheinbaum will hold her daily press conference from Acapulco today, where she’ll give updates on security efforts in the state and progress in rebuilding the town. As usual, her press conference will start from 1330GMT(0830ET). Meanwhile, the Ministry of Welfare will hold a forum on the Sembrando Vida programme at Los Pinos from 1530GMT(1030ET).
  • Datawise, no macro figures are due today, with attention turning to November retail sales on Tuesday next week, followed by bi-weekly CPI data for the first half of January on Thursday and then November economic activity on Friday.
  • As noted earlier, the Mexican peso underperformed peers yesterday ahead of Trump’s inauguration on Monday, although it has edged stronger against the dollar today in recent trade. The trend structure in USDMXN remains bullish, with sights on the bull trigger at 20.9072, the Dec 31 high, which was pierced earlier. A breach of it would resume the uptrend and expose the 21.00 handle initially.
