Shoigu-No Plans For Additional Mobilisation

RUSSIA

Straits Times reporting comments from Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu claiming that there is no need for the mobilisation of more of the population to deal with the ongoing Ukrainian counteroffensive. On a conference call with leaders of the various branches of the Russian military, Shoigu claimed that “There are no plans for an additional mobilisation, the Armed Forces have the necessary number of military personnel to conduct a special military operation.”

  • Comes as Shoigu claims that 335k have signed up to fight in 2023 so far, with 50k joining in the past month as part of 'voluntary formations'. The numbers may be somewhat skewed though by the absorption of fighters from the Wagner group into the regular armed forces following the failed coup against President Vladimir Putin and the subsequent death of Wagner head Yevgeny Prigozhin.
