Situation Around Zaporizhzhya Plant Calms Down, UK To Call Emergency UNSC Meeting

The situation at Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant has seemingly calmed down, with Enerhodar Mayor Dmytro Orlov noting that shelling has stopped, with a crew of 40 people and 10 vehicles now involved in attempts to extinguish the fire. Note that Ukrainian officials have confirmed that the fire burst out in one of the training facilities outside of the perimeter of the power plant.

  • President Zelensky and his ministers held consultations with their foreign counterparts. UK Prime Minister Johnson declared he will call a special session of the UN Security Council to discuss the situation around the plant. Elsewhere, U.S. Energy Secretary Granholm said that the reactors are protected by by robust containment structures and are being safely shut down.
