Slipping As Risks From Washington Assessed

A fairly subdued start for equities, with market participants awaiting further fiscal stimulus news from Sec Mnuchin-House Leader Pelosi talks expected later, as well as the much-anticipated Trump-Biden debate tonight.

  • Asian stocks closed mixed, with Japan's NIKKEI up 27.48 pts or +0.12% at 23539.1 and the TOPIX down 3.83 pts or -0.23% at 1658.1. China's SHANGHAI closed up 6.824 pts or +0.21% at 3224.359 and the HANG SENG ended 200.52 pts lower or -0.85% at 23275.53.
  • European equities are weaker, led by banks, with the German Dax down 89.52 pts or -0.7% at 12781.92, FTSE 100 down 49.71 pts or -0.84% at 5878.14, CAC 40 down 21.45 pts or -0.44% at 4822.88 and Euro Stoxx 50 down 15.32 pts or -0.48% at 3207.86.
  • U.S. futures have slipped slightly, with the Dow Jones mini down 47 pts or -0.17% at 27435, S&P 500 mini down 6 pts or -0.18% at 3340, NASDAQ mini down 32.25 pts or -0.28% at 11363.25.
