Slovenia Revises National Energy & Climate Plan

POWER

Slovenia has revised its National Energy & Climate Plan (NEPN) to aim for higher emissions reduction, increased renewable installation, and improved energy efficiency by 2030, the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Energy said, cited by Bloomberg.

  • The plan aims to achieve at least a 55% reduction in total GHG emissions by 2033 compared to 2005, primarily driven by transitioning away from coal.
  • Slovenia is also aiming for a minimum of 33% share of RES in its final energy consumption by 2030 and increasing the deployment of RES.
  • The country is targeting a final energy consumption of 50.2 TWh by 2030.
  • Slovenia is also aiming for at least 85% of electricity to be sourced from domestic facilities by 2030, and 100% by 2040.
  • The plan outlines two scenarios: building a new nuclear power plant with more renewable investments or intensifying renewable use until 2050.
