Slovnaft Refinery Set for Two Months of Outages

OIL

Slovakian refinery Slovnaft is set to undergo two-months of outages from Friday according to the company today as the plant undergoes planned maintenance.

  • The refinery has been benefitting from cheap Russian urals due to its reliance on the Druzhba pipeline. Slovakia has been offered exemptions from the EU oil ban until the end of 2024 allowing the refinery to benefit from cheap crude supply for an extended period as well as EU funding to upgrade the refinery away from Russian barrels. The ban is yet to be finalised.
  • Slovakia is working on a special tax on Russian crude profits made in the country and directed towards a fund to help tackle high inflationary pressures in the country.
  • The Slovakian government want the cost benefit of processing Russian barrels to passed on to cheaper fuel costs in the country, rather than generating higher profits for MOL.
