Small Group Biden-Putin Meeting Over, Larger Meeting To Start Soon

The initial 'small meeting' at the US-Russia summit involving just Presidents Biden and Putin alongside US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov has concluded according to RIA after nearly 2 hours.

  • A larger group meeting is next on the agenda, with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan, the State Dept's Victoria Nuland and National Security Council's Eric Green joining the US team, while Putin is joined by Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov and Special Rep for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev.
  • The White House has gone to some lengths to deny that President Biden nodded in the affirmative to a question shouted by a reporter asking if he trusted President Putin, with WH Press Sec Jen Psaki stating that in the 'chaos' of the media scrum around the two leaders, Biden was not specifically responding to that question posed.
