Snam Plans €11.5bn Infrastructure Investment Including Gas and LNG

NATURAL GAS

Italian TSO Snam is planning infrastructure investment of €11.5bn including to the country’s gas and LNG infrastructure over the next three years as security of supply and diversification remain priorities.

  • The investment is 15% more than in its previous business plan as the system remains fragile and demand outlook uncertain according to a Snam presentation.
  • The company is also looking to boost the development of a European hydrogen network and carbon capture and storage (CCS).
  • Key upgrades would include a new south to north section of the Adriatic Pipeline and dual-fuel compressor stations, the strengthening and optimization of the storage and export system and the commissioning of a new Ravenna floating LNG unit. The Adriatic Pipeline section is to eliminate bottlenecks in the national gas transport network.
  • The new 5bcm/year FSRU near Ravenna is expected to be installed this year and the 5bcm/year Piombino FSRU is to be relocated offshore.
