NATGAS: SOCAR Fails to Mediate Ukraine Gas Transit Deal

NATGAS

Russia and Ukraine have failed to agree on an Azerbaijani brokered gas deal to keep flows going after the current deal expires in days   a SOCAR source said to Reuters.

  • Europe and Ukraine had asked Azerbaijan to try and broker a deal but Putin said on Thursday no deal was planned, sending TTF higher. The deal has been in discussion for over a year the source said.
  • Zelensky also highlighted reluctance to facilitate any deal that allowed Russia to generate revenue, making it highly unlikely to find any progress.
  • Ukrainian PM Denys Shmyhal said transit could only resume for non-Russian gas, if requested by the European Commission.
  • The SOCAR headline added a little more support for TTF on Friday. The contract has proved reactive to the majority of transit related headlines in recent months.
  • TTF JAN 25 up 1.4% at 43.67€/MWh
