US DATA PREVIEW
US DATA PREVIEW: Societe Generale economist Omair Sharif eyed next Wed's
November CPI and said that "the lingering effects of the hurricanes may have
continued to fuel gains in the core CPI in November. There is also additional
upside risk from a couple of components, as we discuss below. Meanwhile, apparel
is usually a drag on the core late in the year, but it may be less of an anchor
than in previous years."
- Sharif looks "for a 0.23% core (CPI) reading and cannot rule out a 0.3%
advance. The annual rise in the core rate would remain at 1.8%, but given our
core estimate and food and energy assumptions, the headline rate may have
increased by 0.5%, pushing the annual rate from 2.0% to 2.3%. We forecast the
CPI NSA index at 246.826."
