Sol Sees Strong Rebound, USDPEN Rejects 4.00

  • PEN bucked the trend in the region yesterday, with USDPEN settling down around 2.3% at 3.8429. Despite leftist Pedro Castillo indicating he had won Sunday's election, comments that the business sector was showing support for his party bolstered the Sol on Wednesday. Additionally, profit taking may have been in play as USDPEN faltered at 4.00 and there is still a degree of uncertainty with the election result still not official.
  • Peruvian presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori reiterated her allegation of irregularities in Sunday's election as she narrowly lags her opponent with the vote count nearing its end.
    • With 99% of votes tallied, Fujimori has 49.8% of the count. Fujimori asked to nullify 200,000 votes and review another 300,000.
