  • The ANC's allies from trade union federation COSATU and the South African Communist Party (SACP) called for the dismissal of Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube over her boycott of the ceremony to sign the controversial Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill. Further tensions surfaced as Gwarube and Deputy President Paul Mashatile offered conflicting comments on teacher remuneration.
  • Justice Minister Thembi Simelane told the Daily Maverick that she appeared at a hearing before the African National Congress's (ANC's) integrity commission over the so-called VBS scandal. Prior to the hearing, she had been expected to plead innocence.
  • Statistics SA will release Q2 non-farm payrolls at 10:30BST/11:30SAST. Alongside this report, the statistics bureau will also publish August PPI data. Factory-gate inflation is expected to have cooled to +3.5% Y/Y from +4.2% registered in July.
  • The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) will release its quarterly bulletin at 09:00BST/10:00SAST.
