South Korea Bound LNG Cargo Redirects to Cape of Good Hope

LNG

South Korea’s SK E&S has rerouted one US LNG cargo via the Cape of Good Hope to avoid the Red Sea, according to Platts.

  • The LNG Carier Prism Courage has been rerouted to avoid the Suez Canal. It has been due to pass through the Suez Canal from the USA and arrive in Korea in late January.
  • This adds to the list of LNG carriers that are taking longer routes to avoid the Suez Canal, which has seen attacks on in the Bab al-Mandab strait by Yemen’s Houthis.
  • The longer shipping routes will mean higher freight costs. The journey time from Sabine Pass to Asia is 24 days via the Panama Canal, 36 via the Suez Canal, and 38 via the Cape, Platts said.
