Spanish Hydro Reservoir Levels Remain Unchanged Again

Spanish hydropower reserves last week were unchanged for the third consecutive week according to data from Spain’s Environmental Ministry.

  • Hydro reservoir levels are at 66.3% of capacity at the end of last week – unchanged since 7 May.
  • Hydro output edged down last week by 178MW to 4.82GW.
  • Spanish power demand last week averaged 24.35GW, slightly down from 24.5GW the week prior.
  • Wind output in Spain declined by 1.46GW last week to 3.88GW, while solar PB output rose by 862MW on the week to 8.05GW.
  • Gas-fired generation last week edged up by 115MW to 3.56GW.
  • Spanish power demand is forecast to rise slightly over 20-26 May (this week) to 24.38GW compared to 24.22GW estimated over 13-19 May (week 20), which may weigh on Spanish reservoir levels.
  • Looking forward, power demand in Spain is forecast to peak at 30.15GW this week on Wednesday according to Entso-E.
  • Wind output is forecast at 3.26GW and 8.5GW during base load for the remainder of this week. Solar PV output is forecast at 11.4GW to 13.3GW during peak load for the remainder of this week according to SpotRenewables.
