Speaker Mapisa-Nqakula Appears In Court To Seek Arrest Interdiction

  • Deputy Speaker Lechesa Tsenoli has been appointed acting Speaker for the duration of Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula's special leave and will assume all her powers and responsibilities. Mapisa-Nqakula has stepped aside after the policy raided her home as part of a graft investigation. The Mail & Guardian reported this morning that faces 12 corruption chargers and one of money laundering. She is expected to appear in court today after filing for an interdiction of her arrest.
  • Eskom will implement the pattern of suspending loadshedding from 05:00 until 16:00 and Stage 2 loadshedding from 16:00 until 05:00 daily until further notice amid the need to replenish emergency reserves. Note that Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa will hold his media briefing on the implementation of the Energy Action Plan today.
  • The Bureau for Economic Research (BER) will release the Q1 reading of its Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) at 08:00GMT/10:00SAST.
