Speculators Drive Oil Price Drop with Demand Healthy: Saudi Minister

Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman says the recent oil decline is due to speculators and that oil demand is healthy according to Bloomberg.

  • “It’s not weak,” said Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman. “People are pretending it’s weak. It’s all a ploy.”
  • Some participants are misunderstanding the correlation between rising OPEC exports and actual production. Shipments show seasonal fluctuations with a drop in summer typically followed by a rise in September and October he said.
  • “It’s an abuse of numbers” to fail to distinguish between rising exports and rising production, said Prince Abdulaziz.
