Spot LNG Prices Set for Winter Boost

LNG

Global LNG prices remain in a pre-winter trough, but signs indicate the typical winter spike is approaching, according to Reuters.

  • JKM Spot prices ended the previous week at $13.50/MMBtu, a fall of 10% on the prior week, but up 50% from the $9/MMBtu nadir in June.
  • Early signs indicate a boost in demand from Asia, with imports of 20.76m mt of LNG into the region so far, according to Kpler. Japan is following its usual seasonal buying pattern, Reuters said – weaker buying in October, before demand accelerates.
  • Imports into Europe for October are currently 8.58m mt, up from 7.4m mt in September, Kpler data shows. While this is down from 2022 levels, demand could rise further should a period of colder weather hit the continent.
