EMISSIONS TRADING

Standard Chartered may not achieve the target to power all of its operations with renewables in 2025, it said, cited by Bloomberg.

  • The bank said it may not achieve its target due to market constraints and a lack of renewable energy options in some of the markets including Africa and the Middle East.
  • The target was announced in 2022.
  • StanChart targets to achieve net zero in its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025. It plans to reach net zero in its Scope 3 emissions by 2050.
  • The bank has been using carbon credits to offset its carbon footprint, while also signing PPAs and installing onsite renewable plants amongst other things to raise its renewable share.
  • Earlier this week, HSBC said it plans to delay its net zero targets by 20 years to 2050.
