Star Bulk Carriers to Avoid Red Sea Region

Star Bulk Carriers Corp will avoid sailing through the Red Sea following Houthi rebel attacks on two of its vessels, Chief Executive Officer Petros Pappas said.

  • “Going forward, we will not be passing Suez Canal anymore because we are obviously a target of the Houthis being a public company registered in the US,” Pappas said.
  • Yemen’s Houthi revels attacked the Star Nasia and the Star Iris in the last two weeks.
  • The firm said it was targeted by the militants because it is listed in the US and that is was unable to divert the two vessels for legal reasons.
