Steady Ukraine Storage Injections as EU Nears Full Capacity

NATURAL GAS

A high winter contract premium of 4$/mmbtu is driving European traders to look for additional injection options, including into storage in Ukraine according to IEA.

  • EU injection rates are slowing down as storages are nearing full capacity, and Ukraine is emerging as the largest driver for Europe's late storage injections before the start of the heating season.
  • Ukraine's storage injections have been outpacing Germany since mid-August and currently account for around 30% of total EU+Ukraine injections.
  • Around 2bcm of gas was injected in Ukraine storage so far by European companies.
  • European natural gas storage is up to 94.34% full on 19 Sep according to GIE data with Ukraine gas in store up to 35.11% full.
