Strong Start for PEN, HUF

EM FX
  • PEN and HUF have been strongly supported since the start of the week, up 1.2% and 0.9% respectively, against the US Dollar.
  • CEE currencies have been consolidated higher in the past week, with HUF being a strong winner so far this week as market keeps digesting last week’s hike in the 1W depo rate (20bps hike to 4%).
  • PLN is down slightly this week (-0.3% vs. USD) as NBP decided to go for a 50bps hike today, which was largely priced in by the market.
  • At the bottom, political uncertainty, rising inflation and ‘dovish’ CBRT keep weighing on the TRY (down 2% against the USD).
  • BRL is the second weakest performer, down 1.8% against the Dollar.
