POWER: Swedish Government to Consider Auction System for Offshore Wind

POWER

The Swedish Climate and Environment Ministry has received a report on offshore wind power, with the document proposing that the country should switch to an auction system for offshore wind, it said today.

  • The proposal aims to make the EIA of offshore wind power more efficient and clearer.
  • “With an auction system, the state can at an early stage point out areas where it is suitable and desirable to expand wind power based on the collective interests in the sea,” the government added.
  • Additionally, the report proposes that the developer who wins the auction should be given the exclusive right to develop offshore wind power in an area.
  • The report will be analysed and prepared further within the government.
