POWER: Swedish TSO Eyes Power Cable to Gotland Island, Enter's €450mn Agreement

Svenska Kraftnat has signed a SEK5.2bn (€450mn) agreement for a 118 km cable to connect the island of Gotland – south of Stockholm – supporting its growing electricity demand and renewable energy expansion by 2030, the TSO said.

  • The main grid connection to Gotland is expected to be operational by 2030.
  • The connection will enable the electrification of industry and facilitate the future expansion of solar and wind power on Gotland.
  • There are several renewable power plants planned to be built on the island, which include an 80MW PV park owned by Fortum and a 40MW PV unit owned by Nordic Solar.
