Swiss Hydro Stocks Fell Third Consecutive Week

Hydropower reserves in Switzerland declined by 1.3 percentage points to 84.7% of capacity as of 16 October, marking the third consecutive weekly decline, BFE data showed.

  • Stocks widened the deficit to the long-term average since 1997 to 0.5 percentage points, compared with 0.3 points the week earlier.
  • The deficit to the 5-year average also widened to 0.9 points, up from 0.4 points the week prior.
  • Overall hydropower output declined on the week. Production from reservoirs declined by 211MW to 11.2GW last week, Entso-E data showed.
  • Forecasts suggest high precipitation in the hydro-intensive region of Sion in canton Valais for the remainder of this week, supporting inflows into reserves.
