Swiss Hydro Stocks Narrow Surplus to Average

Swiss hydropower reserves saw another sharp weekly decline of 6.5 percentage points to 57.8% of capacity as of 22 January, narrowing the surplus to the long-term and five-year averages, BFE data showed.

  • Stocks fell by 7 percentage points the week prior.
  • The surplus to the five-year average narrowed to 5.5 points, down from 6.9 points the week prior.
  • Reserves stood at a surplus of 9.5 points to the long-term average – since 1997 – last week, compared with a surplus of 11.7 points the week before.
  • Hydro output declined on the week. Production from pumped storage fell by 283MW to 1.299GW last week, while output from reservoirs fell by 279MW to 2.12GW, Entso-E data showed.
