Swiss Hydropower Stocks Narrowed Surplus To Long-Term Average

Swiss hydropower reserves increased last week and stood at 59.6% of capacity, 5.31TWh, as of 3 July, helped by higher precipitation, but narrowed the surplus to the long-term average, BFE data showed.

  • Hydro reserves narrowed the surplus to the long-term average – 1997-2022 - to 3.2 percentage points, compared to 4.3 percentage points a week earlier.
  • Stocks rose by 389GWh week on week, with the largest increase in the canton of Valais, where around 45% of Switzerland’s hydropower reserves are located, of 253GWh.
