Switzerland Votes in Favour of More Renewable Energy

Switzerland voted in favour of the new electricity law on Sunday which supports the ramp up of renewable energies, the government said.

  • The law is expected simplify the rollout of new hydropower, solar PV and onshore wind projects.
  • As part of the new law, Switzerland aims to produce 35TWh of electricity from renewable sources, excluding hydropower, by 2035 and 45TWh by 2050.
  • More than two-thirds of Swiss voters backed a new legislation to promote renewable energy in a referendum on Sunday.
  • The law will come into effect in January 2025.
