US TSYS: T-Notes on the back foot, last -0-08 at 130-21+, just above session
lows. Late Friday saw curve steepening pressure accelerate as BBG noted that
"the U.S. Tsy said Friday that it wants to know what investors think about the
gov't potentially issuing 50- or 100-year bonds... The gov't stressed that no
decision has yet been made on ultra-long bonds, explaining that it's looking to
"refresh its understanding of market appetite." (last mentioned by Tsy in '17)
- The aforementioned RTRS sources story suggesting that the "U.S. Commerce Dep't
is expected to extend a reprieve given to Huawei that permits the Chinese co. to
buy supplies from U.S. cos so that it can service existing customers" is likely
aiding risk appetite at the start of the week. This is in spite of comments from
U.S. Pres. Trump, with a Wash Post reporter tweeting "Trump says he's going to
make a decision tomorrow on Huawei. He pushes back against reports that his
administration is expected to give the Chinese company another temporary
reprieve. "At this moment, it looks much more like we're not going to do
business." As mentioned elsewhere, there has prev. been a distinction between
the admin (gov't) dealing with Huawei & corporates dealing with the Chinese co.
