Table of Six to Meet Jan 26 to Discuss Joint Presidential Candidate

  • IYI Party Chairman Meral Aksener said they have started preparations for the Table of Six meeting to be held on January 26, Cumhurriyet report. A commission will be established for the “distribution, examination and negotiations for the candidate of the Table of Six.” Note the parliamentary and presidential elections are likely to be brought forward to May from June.
  • Russians became the top foreign buyers of real estate in Turkey last year, buying a record 16,321 homes in Turkey in 2022, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute, and helping to maintain Turkey’s spot as one of the most attractive destinations for foreign investment in real estate. Even when adjusted for inflation, property prices in Turkey posted real growth of 57.6% in the third quarter, data from Knight Frank’s Global House Price Index shows.
  • President Erdogan will address his party’s lawmakers today at 0900 GMT/1200 local time while Foreign Minister Cavusoglu meets US Secretary of State Blinken in Washington. There are no major economic releases today ahead of tomorrow’s CBRT decision where rates are expected to be held at +9.0%.
