CHINA

The Taiwan Affairs Office of China's State Council released a white paper titled "The Taiwan Question and China's Reunification in the New Era," Xinhua News Agency reports.

  • Beijing reaffirmed its commitment to the one-China policy, noting that the CPC is committed to resolving the Taiwan question and achieving a "complete national reunification."
  • The white paper blames the actions of Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party for heightened cross-Strait tensions, adding that "these obstacles must be removed."
  • China vows commitment to the "one country, two systems" principle, arguing that Taiwan's distinct social system will not be an obstacle to eventual reunification.
  • Beijing says it "will not renounce the use of force" and is ready to take "all necessary measures" to "guard against external interference and all separatist activities."
