Taliban Plans Regional Trading Hub Eyeing Russian Oil

The Taliban in Afghanistan has agreed with Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to build a logistics hub, aimed at regional exports including Russian oil to South Asia, according to Reuters.

  • Technical terms and formal plans for the hub will be drawn up within two months, according to Taliban acting commerce minister Nooruddin Azizi.
  • The Taliban are eyeing millions of tonnes of oil they expect to be exported to South Asia, including Pakistan. These markets are more important for Russia after it has been cut off from western markets.
  • Kazakhstan’s trade ministry said that it wanted to develop infrastructure through Afghanistan to connect with South Asia and the Gulf.
