Tariffs Suspended For 4 Months To Reach Settlement On Aerospace Subsidies

Politico reporting that the US and EU have agreed to a four-month suspension of tariffs to allow for the negotiation of a settlement on the long-running Airbus/Boeing subsidy dispute.

  • Follows identical agreement reached yesterday between the US and the UK.
  • The removal of tariffs in order to facilitate negotiation marks a major change in US attitudes compared to the more belligerent trade actions of the Trump administration.
  • If an agreement can be reached it would mark the end of one of the longest-running trade disputes at the WTO. The issue has held back the prospect of an EU-US trade deal for a number of years.
