Tax Bill Developments Eyed, President Duque in South Korea

  • In Colombia, investors will eye developments regarding the tax bill this week. Government officials will meet with lawmakers who are expected to have a new text ready mid-week which will then be reviewed and voted on in a first debate in congress. (BBG)
  • Elsewhere, President Duque will hold official meetings between Tuesday and Thursday in South korea with his counterpart Moon Jae-in. They are set to discuss investment in infrastructure projects and cooperation in health. Duque is traveling with some ministers including mines and energy, health and trade.
  • In geopolitics, Colombia will join group of nations that will provide temporary asylum to Afghans "that helped the United States for years and are in the process of registering and migrating to that country," President Ivan Duque said in a joint press conference with U.S. Ambassador Philip Goldberg.
  • For reference, the central bank board meeting scheduled for August 30 is not a live monetary policy decision meeting. The next live meeting is set for September 30.
