TGS Halts Argentina LNG Plant as State-Run Project Seeks Backers

Natural gas transporter TGS is halting plans to build a small LNG plant to export Argentina’s growing shale production, as state-run YPF seeks industry-wide support for a large-scale project, Bloomberg said.

  • “We’ve put the LNG project on standby because there’s a new approach from YPF,” TGS CFO Alejandro Basso said.
  • The gas company is now eyeing a larger project that YPF is currently developing with Petronas.
  • While Argentina currently imports LNG, it has goals to become a net exporter by leveraging its mass shale reserves.
