Thailand Halts Vaccinations With AstraZeneca Citing Safety Concerns

USD/THB slipped early on but failed to hold onto losses and has returned to virtually unchanged levels. It last sits at THB30.575, poised to finish the week slightly higher.

  • Thai PM Prayuth and some of the cabinet members who were due to receive vaccinations with the AstraZeneca jabs have postponed their appointments, in the wake of the decision by some European countries to halt inoculations with the AstraZeneca product. The Health Ministry later said that Thailand halts vaccinations with AstraZeneca shots owing to safety concerns.
  • A court ruling judged that Thailand would have to hold a national referendum before lawmakers can rewrite the constitution, in a setback for anti-gov't protesters.
  • Bulls look for a sustained recovery past the 200-DMA at THB30.835 & Mar 9 high of THB30.945. Conversely, a dip through the 100-DMA at THB30.310 would open up Mar 1 low of THB30.200.
  • The weekly update on Thai foreign reserves comes out later today. Next week's docket is generally empty, save for the next round of foreign reserves data.
