Thailand's PTT In Talks with Qatar for Long Term LNG Supply

Thailand's PTT is in advanced talks with Qatar for a 15-year LNG supply deal according to Reuters sources.

  • Negotiations are suggested to be for the supply of 1 or 2mtpa although the size of the contract isn’t yet decided. A deal isn't expected before the end of summer.
  • Interest for long term contracts with Asia has outpaced Europe in locking in supply from Qatar's two-phase expansion plan to raise liquefaction capacity from 77mtpa to 126mtpa.
  • The report follows reports yesterday that Japan’s natural gas buyers are also in talks to agree new LNG supply contracts with Qatar, driven by energy security concerns.
