JAPAN: The latest weekly international security flows data revealed that
Japanese investors piled back into foreign bonds, buying nearly Y1.8tn worth
during the sample week, after turning small net sellers in the previous week
(they have only been net sellers in 2 of the last 10 weeks). This allowed the
4-week rolling sum of the measure to tick higher once again, remaining
comfortably in positive territory.
- Foreign investors dumped Japanese paper, turning net sellers for the first
time since mid-January, perhaps spooked by the multi-year lows observed across
longer dated JGB yields.
- Elsewhere, foreigners continued to sell Japanese equities, as they have for 17
out of the last 19 weeks.
